چکیده

Objective: To determine the severity score of bronchiectasis using MDCT and pulmonary function tests and to relate the extent of MDCT score to pulmonary function tests. Patients and Methods: A prospective study was performed in Assuit University Hospitals from 2011 to 2013 and it included 50 patients underwent MDCT examination and pulmonary function. Two radiologists interpreted MDCT images according to recommendations of the Nomenclature Committee of the Fleischner Society and Modified Bhalla CT Scoring System. Results: The Global MDCT scores for all types of bronchiectasis patients were statistically significantly negative correlated with the values of FEV 1 % ( r=0.94 and p=0.04). There was significant difference in the degree or extent of bronchiectasis in both types. Emphysema was reported in 50% (n=25) of the patients with significant negative correlation found among those have emphysema related to FEV1% (r=–0.96 and p=0.000) and FVC% (r=–0.56 and p=0.003) and global MDCT score (p<0.001). Conclusion: MDCT scores have significant relation to pulmonary function tests and detect morphological changes of bronchiectasis.

Pulmonary involvement in ankylosing spondylitis assessed by multidetector computed tomography

BACKGROUND Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) may present with extra-articular involvement in the lungs. We aimed to evaluate the abnormal pulmonary multidetector computed tomography findings of patients with AS and compare them with the clinical symptoms, duration of illness, laboratory results and pulmonary function tests (PFT). MATERIAL/METHODS We evaluated the chest multidetector computed tomogr...

Paratracheal air cysts: prevalence and relevance to pulmonary emphysema and bronchiectasis using thoracic multidetector CT.

PURPOSE We aimed to determine the prevalence of paratracheal air cysts (PTACs) and the relationship of PTACs with emphysema and bronchiectasis through retrospective analysis of multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) findings. METHODS MDCT findings of 1027 consecutive patients who underwent routine thorax examination between January 2012 and January 2013 were evaluated retrospectively for th...

Three-dimensional reconstruction of New Zealand rabbit antebrachium by multidetector computed tomography

The aim of this study was to reveal biometric peculiarities of New Zealand white rabbit antebrachium (radius and ulna) by means of three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction of multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) images. Under general anesthesia, the antebrachiums of a total of sixteen rabbits of both sexes were scanned with a general diagnostic MDCT. Biometric measurements of the reconstructed...

The Correlation of Brody High Resolution Computed Tomography Scoring System with Clinical Status and Pulmonary Function Test in Patients with Cystic Fibrosis

Background: To reduce the mortality and morbidity rates of cystic fibrosis (CF) patients, and to have an effective clinical management, it is important to monitor the progression of the disease. The aim of this study was to evaluate the progression of lung disease in CF patients by means of assessing the correlation of the CT scoring system with clinical status and pulmonary function test at th...

3D Imaging in Unilateral Primary Pulmonary Hypoplasia in an Adult: A Case Report

Unilateral primary pulmonary hypoplasia is rare in adulthood (UPHA); it is characterized by a decreased number of bronchial segmentation and decreased/absent alveolar air space. Classical chest X-ray may be confusing, and the biological tests are unspecific. We present a case of UPHA in a 60-year-old female, smoker, with 3 term normal deliveries, who presented with late recurrent pneumonias and...
